Hostile Makeover is a hidden-object game based on the series 'The Crime of Fashion Mysteries', by Ellen Byerrum. The story follows the steps of a fashion reporter who investigates the murder of Amanda Mansville, a famous top model. Amanda, who had jumped to fame after a makeover, was killed the same day when she was showcasing her clothing line collection. After that, the reporter decides to search for clues leading to the murderer. She starts off the investigation in Amanda's place, where she collects pictures and objects to eventually draw up a list of suspects. Each of the suspects represents a game level or mission, where you will be playing hidden-object and spot-the-differences games set in locations these people go to regularly. The reporter will be your guide throughout the game, giving you tips and hints about the gameplay, and also making some acid comments on the fashion world.
The scenes are very well recreated, and the items to find are presented in a list or through photos showing their silhouette. Some scenes are quite hard to solve, so you can resort to the hints which will help you locate the objects easily.
Though the gameplay itself offers nothing out of the ordinary, that is, you will be playing the typical HOG scenes with a few extra games, what keeps you playing is the engaging storyline. Besides, the game is visually very appealing, featuring some photorealistic settings. Those who like the genre should definitely give it a try.
